Saracens vs Gloucester

Saracens continue their unbeaten start in the premiership by beating Gloucester 38-15 at Allianz park. Saracens now sit top of the table with a maximum of 20 points, getting bonus points in all of the games they have played. Gloucester were out of the game for the most part with a half time score of 24-3 and will be worried that they were never competitive against the reigning champions.

Gloucester coach Ackermann said when speaking to BT Sport that his team were 'way off' and that there is 'a long way to go' and credited Saracens for being 'brutal and showing why they are champions.'

Saracens defence coach, Sanderson, said to BT Sport that he was 'happy' with the result and that 'we are doing something right.' Saracens stayed dominant despite going down to 14 men due to injury at the end of the game.

The game started with Gloucester choosing to battle into the wind for the first half, with the aim to then have an easier second half. After 10 minutes Saracens had already scored 10 points. An early penalty saw Farrell slot over an easy 3 points which was followed up by a try from Strettle which was converted by Farrell.

Despite large periods of Gloucester possession Saracens smothered the Gloucester attack and limited the options of Danny Cipriani. Saracens were able to force turnovers from their defence meaning that Gloucester struggled to build much momentum.

In the 26th minute Itoje scored of a Farrell kick which rebounded off the post with Farrell slotting the conversion. Billy Twelvetrees was able to kick a penalty in the 35th minute to get the cherry and whites on the scoreboard. The Gloucester team were struck with an injury crisis.

Both Ludlow, who was celebrating his 50th apperance, and Ackermann had to leave the field due to injury. Ackermann said in a post match interview with BT Sport that Ludlow was walking around in the changing room but would have to go through the return to play protocols. This saw Ben Morgan and Freddie Clarke come on to take their places.

Just before half time Itoje scored again from a pick and go from a lineout on Gloucesters 5 metre line. Farrell once again scored the conversion making the score 24-3 at half time.

After the break it was much of the same. Jamie George played well on his 200th appearance and even put in a box kick! Maitland and Lozowski scored and Farrell's conversions saw him draw level with Glen Jacksons Saracens Premiership points record.

Atkinson and Sharples managed to score two late tries to improve Gloucesters score but it was too little too late. The final whistle blew with the score at 38-15.

Richard Wigglesworth become the player with the most premiership apperances today with 266 games. Mako Vunipola described him as being 'the best in the game' and it can be said that he is a real credit to rugby.

Gloucester will feel annoyed that they couldn't get into their own game with yet another loss on the road. They will hope that things will look better when they take on Harlequins next week.
