Bath vs Toulon plus Monkton Rugby season highlights

At last Bath have done it. They have beaten Toulon. After many battles between the two teams, Bath have at last done enough to beat the French giants and top their pool in the Champions Cup. The 26-21 victory leaves Bath at the top of pool 5 with 13 points, behind Toulon and then Scarlets with Benetton at the bottom.

Before I talk about the Bath victory I have been asked by a number of my teammates to post my school Rugby teams season highlights on here. We have had a great season and it has been enjoyable playing with such a quality group of players. Here's a video of our season highlights...

Back to business. Bath have shown true grit and determination to beat a true world class side like Toulon. Individual players also stood up in the absence of Baths quality players, Rocco and Faletau. Aled Brew had a great game last week and proved it wasn't a fluke by backing it up this week. I had never really appreciated his raw power and an example of this was when he handed off the 120kg Mathieu Bastareaud. An underestimated player who really showed his value today.

Francios Louw is a quality player who really stood up in the absence of Faletau. He once again showed that he is world class around the breakdown by making a number of jackals and steals. A player of this standard is a real asset to the club. Bath have shown they have such strength and depth in the backrow as Underhill is still out with a head injury.
Anthony Watson proved that he can be a formidable force at fullback at international level. Eddie Jones was watching the game at the Rec and his face lit up when he saw Watson run around three defenders to score just before the end of the first half. Eddie's reaction suggests to me that Watson will be starting at fullback for England for this February's 6 nations. With England's vast quantity of top wingers, playing Watson at fullback opens up more opportunities for Jack Nowell and Johnny May. I think Watson offers more of an attacking threat than Brown and although Brown is arguably better under the high ball, it is an area that Watson is improving on.
Bath face Sale next week in the Prem. Fingers crossed that they can take their form from this week and build on it into the next game.
