Rugby is becoming more like football. Players have started back chatting the referee but the positive is that the sport is growing incredibly. With this increase in popularity comes the opportunity for rugby clubs to expand and essentially for them make a bigger brand in the aim of making more money. An example of this is Bath Rugby who have recently announced plans to develop the Rec. Many Bath fans hold the Rec close to their hearts. Many people agree that Bath have a unique ground which is entrenched in rugby's history.
I do agree that there are many benefits for having the Rec updated. More seats would allow for a greater number of people to come and watch Bath games which would create a greater fan base and overall support for the team. The plans to change the Rec are sure to be conservative. They would not get planning permission to build anything too extravagant which would help to conserve the individuality of the Rec.
Many of the new pitch's have introduced artificial pitches to their grounds. I personally believe that this defeats the whole reason why Rugby is such a great sport. Rugby is a game played in all weather and on grass. It annoys me to see that the sport is losing its heritage. Wales are starting to play under a roof which is an outrage to rugby. Rugby is an outdoor game, enjoyed by many people who play it on grass. Having professional teams playing on artificial pitches creates pressure for teams lower down to do the same. I therefore believe the Rec should have a grass pitch.

Why risk changing such a beautiful part of the game and such an iconic part of the city. Far too often rugby is played in big stadiums which have 3/4 of their seats empty. Although probably similar numbers are their watching the game at the Rec, the atmosphere is lost. The compactness of the Rec has made it so special. Such a memorable place to go and watch rugby. To change it too drastically would be a shame.Ranking Premiership clubs by the quality/coolness/iconicness of their stadiums:— #RUGBYSTIG (@rugbystig) November 26, 2017
