Baths preformance so far

Bath have had a great season so far. Winning 6 games from 8. The defence has been outstanding with players like Sam Underhill making huge numbers of tackles each game. Baths backrow is a real area of strength with world class players like Faletau and Louw and young stars Underhill and Mercer coming through. In Baths last game against the Scarlets, Sam Underhill made 17 tackles and did not miss a single one. On top of this he was a destructive force at the breakdown slowing down the opposition ball.

Rhys Priestland has also had a great run of form. In an interview he was asked what the reason for this was and he simply said that "its probably because I'm playing.'' This shows that game time is a key part in allowing players to show their talent. There is a real battle between Priestland and Burns but at the moment with Burns banned for the next game and with Priestland hopefully being selected for Wales, both players will have time to show what they can do.

Baths defensive efforts have been phenomenal so far this season. The question is whether this is maintainable all season. With so many injuries to Bath this season already, it is hard to see this being a sustainable tactic. When speaking to Henry Thomas last week, it was interesting to note that he believes that the new rules at the breakdown have actually led to more injuries due to there being more defenders in the line and therefore more tackles.

It has been a really promising start to the season for Bath. Hopefully the top form will continue and Bath can have a great season.
