Last night was a great night for boxing Daniel Dubious, Anthony Yarde and Billy Joe Saunders kicked the evening off. Callum Smith won his fight in the super middleweight super series.
Daniel Dubious is a super fighter. A knockout artist. He is knocking over grown men like they are bowling pins at the age of 19. That's impressive. Anthony Yarde is another great talent. His power is incredible and I was suprised that his opponent lasted as long as he did. Anthony Yarde has a great future ahead of him. He has the option to go up a weight class and fight at cruserweight. Tony Bellew used to fight as a Light Heavyweight and he is now fighting at heavyweight so there are many options for Yarde.
Billy Joe Saunders did the job well. He got rid of his ring rust and got 12 solid rounds under his belt. He has the boxing ability to compete with Canelo and Golovkin. His decision to switch trainers and go with Dominic Ingle was a great decision. Billy seems to be enjoying his boxing more. He has the skill and ability. He can unify the division.
The Canelo GGG fight was a good scrap. Both fighters had a great night and although I thought that GGG should have just won the points decision, I understand how it could have been interpreted as a draw. However, it is totally disgusting to see that one of the judges scored the fight 118-110 to Canelo. I don't know what fight they were watching but it certainly was not the same one as I saw. There seem to have been many controversial decisions with the judges. It upsets me to see that two boxers will risk everything and go into the ring for it then to be corrupted by a few judges who have never laced the gloves up before. It's a shame and I hope that boxing sorts it out.
This weekend has been great. Not much sleep but what a weekend of boxing. I look forward to next weekend when Hughie Fury takes on Joseph Parker for the WBO heavyweight belt.
